For Tenants

Apriori Legal Services offers legal services to tenants and potential tenants to ensure that their rights are not violated either during the verification phase or after the parties have entered into a lease. Please call us for free consultation.

Key points for tenants:

  • Know the Residential Tenancies Act. The law was passed primarily to protect tenants. Know your rights and responsibilities under the Law
  • If you are renting an apartment in a condominium, read its by-laws
  • Avoid being scammed. Before signing the lease, inspect the property you are applying for. To make sure you are dealing with the owner of the house or their official representative, ask for the ownership/title deed and a photo ID
  • Read the rental agreement carefully and make sure you understand all of its terms. It can save you from penalties and termination
  • Properly and promptly inform the landlord about the problems that have arisen and save related documentation
  • Obtain the Tenants Insurance. It protects the tenant’s personal belongings in the event of fire, theft, etc. Some tenants mistakenly believe that the landlord’s home insurance will cover the tenants’ personal belongings. This is not true. Liability insurance is sometimes also recommended in the event of a claim against the renter, for example due to negligence.
  • If in doubt, consult the law. Never act on your assumptions
